2014 Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ‘The Gate’

This wine is ruby in colour. It displays interesting notes of black cherries, licorice and pine-cones with vanilla undertones. The palate is firm and full bodied with a savoury finish. It will cellar well for up to 15 years.

Winemaking Notes

Fruit for this wine was handpicked from the single vineyard site “The Gate” at the entrance of our Yarra Valley property. These vines are planted on a gentle slope facing a north-west aspect producing favorable growing conditions. Vinification occurred in open top fermenters. Hand plunging was used to aid colour and tannin extraction. It was then matured in new and seasoned French oak barrels for 12 months.

Bottled February 2016

Hand-picked, open-fermented, hand-plunged, matured for 12 months in new and used French oak. This is a particularly powerful and concentrated cabernet, the savoury/earthy/herbal edges to the cassis fruit just a little too obvious, however varietal they may be.
